NMIT Training and Consultancy Department (TnCD) is a dynamic unit that specialises on maritime training and consultancy activities. It is inspired by a group of determined and innovative professionals with wide ranging exposures and capabilities.

TnCD is the successor of Pelorus Intelligence & Technology Academy and its achievements can be traced back from 1998. From a humble beginning, it has grown to become one of the leading maritime consultants, offering a wide range of programmes and services to a number of nation’s key industries from shipping, ports, shipbuilding, and power generation to oil & gas.


The TnCD’s management professionals are highly regarded for their extensive high-level management and operational experience in the maritime, oil & gas and logistics industries. Their expertise is fundamentally shaped by first hand practical experience gained over many years of working in a wide range of major public and private organisations. Coupled with extensive international exposure through notable project attachments and participation, they are capable of providing high quality maritime and oil & gas related consultancy services to prospective clients, covering the entire business processes from preliminary market analysis, design and development to operations and management.

Head of Training & Consultancy/Special Projects

Mr. Norzali Mohd Zain had previously served Barakah Offshore Petroleum as the General Manager of Marine Operation for the Operations Division where he led the marine operations for KL101 and chartering of Offshore Supply Vessels.

He started his career as a Marine Deck Apprentice in Singapore Polytechnic in 1976. In 1977, he was a Merchant Marine Officer with Malaysian International Shipping Corporation Bhd. In 1986, he took on the role of Principle Marine Warranty Surveyor with Ranaco Marine Sdn Bhd and then Director and Principal Warranty Marine Surveyor in Noble Denton Malaysia. In 1998, he joined Permint Engineering Sdn Bhd as General Manager.

In 2001, he was Resident Manager at Ta Ching & BT Engineering Singapore. A year later, he joined Pelorus Sdn Bhd as Technical Manager for oil & gas division. In 2007, he joined Berkat Global Sdn Bhd as General Manager/Principal Marine Warranty Surveyor overseeing the PETRONAS Carigali Marine Warranty Inspection. Prior to joining PBJV, he was Marine Specialist for the Asia Pacific region with DHL Global Forwarding, Singapore. He holds a Merchant Marine Officer Competency Certificate from Sydney Technical College, New South Wales, Australia.
